Celebrating 40 Years of Excellence in Cylinders and Hydraulic Cylinder Repair

February 21, 2012

A lot happened in January 1972. The first scientific hand held calculator was introduced, the space shuttle program was announced, the Cowboys beat the Dolphins in Super Bowl VI, and our company, Yates Hydraulic Cylinder RepairYates Industries, was born. It has been a busy and fruitful 40 years. From our beginnings as a hydraulic cylinder repair facility for the fluid power industry, to becoming a nationwide leader in hydraulic and pneumatic cylinder manufacture and repair, Yates has always been about innovation, customer service, quality, and growth.  We started small, but we’ve grown by leaps and bounds over the years. In the last year alone, we added 40,000 sq. feet to our Detroit location and began finalizing plans to triple the size of our Decatur, Alabama facilities. Our recent expansions were spurred on by our outstanding sales during what has been a rough time for the economy. In fact, both of our locations posted record sales in 2011.

The Importance of Family
Of course, it takes more than great sales and big facilities to thrive for 40 years. For us the magic ingredient has been our strong sense of family. Yates has always been a privately owned and operated business. It has allowed us the freedom to treat our workers and customers like family. If you mix personalized customer service with the highest quality products and staff, you really can’t go wrong.

On the Water
Over the years, Yates has played a major role in a wide variety of crucial industries. The Navy has called on us to design and redesign cylinder applications for equipment used on America’s aircraft carriers.  Yates Hydraulic Cylinder RepairBecause Yates has locations on both the Great Lakes and the Tennessee River, we have also provided our cylinders to a large segment of America’s civilian shipping industry.

On the Road
Since the day we started, Yates has had a strong relationship with our neighbors in the automotive industry.  You cannot manufacture a vehicle without the use of cylinders, so it’s no wonder that you’ll find Yates’ cylinders in almost every automotive and stamping plant in town. Just in case you need more proof of our close ties to Detroit’s lifeblood, our main facility is located just off the Edsel Ford Freeway. Can’t get much more Detroit than that.

The Future
The next 40 years will bring a completely new set of challenges and Yates is ready.  We are currently working with leading alternative energy companies to make sure that our cylinders play a role in making the world a greener and cleaner place to live. In addition, we recently implemented a program that will allow us to expand our customer base and work more closely with our existing clients and partners. Together with our commitment to innovation, quality products, and customer service, these initiatives position Yates for another 40 amazing years.
